School Profile
School of Management was founded in 1981, originated from Guangdong Institute of Technology. It started undergraduate education with recruiting Industrial Management Engineering undergraduate. In 1995, Guangdong Institute of Technology, Guangdong Institute of Mechanical Engineering and South China Institute of Construction (East Institute) were merged into Guangdong University of Technology, and formed the Department of Business Administration. In 2000, the Department moved to Longyan Cave Forest Park Natural Scenic Spot, Tianhe District, Guangzhou, and established School of Economics and Management. In 2009, School of Economics and Management was split and adjusted to become School of Management, which is currently the core school of Longdong Campus of Guangdong University of Technology. The management discipline is one of the first to obtain the First-Level doctoral degree program at GDUT (2006). After more than 40 years of continuous construction and unremitting efforts, the management discipline has developed into a leading of humanities and social disciplines at GDUT, and has become a key construction discipline of high-level university in Guangdong Province. It has an important influence in Guangdong province as well as in Southern China.
Well-established Disciplinary Structure
After more than 40 years of development, School of Management has given full play to GDUT’s regional advantage in Guangzhou and specialty in engineering to establish an education system including bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees. The School has a well-established disciplinary structure with 8 departments including Operations and Supply Chain Management, Data Science and Business Intelligence, Decision Science and Finance Engineering (Energy and Environmental System Engineering and Finance Engineering), Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management, Marketing, Leadership and Organizational Management, Finance and Accounting, and Public Administration. School of Management has the First-Level doctoral degree program and postdoctoral center of “Management Science and Engineering” discipline, and the Second-Level doctoral degree program of “Industrial Enterprise Management” discipline (self-setting). “Management Science and Engineering” is the dominant key discipline in Guangdong Province, and “Industrial Enterprise Management” is the dominant characteristic key discipline in Guangdong Province. The School has 3 First-Level master’s degree programs of “Management Science and Engineering”, “Business Administration” and “Public Administration”. School of Management also offers 4 taught postgraduate degree programs including Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc), Master of Logistics Engineering and Master of Project Management. Meanwhile, the School also contains 8 undergraduate programs, including Information Management and Information System, E-commerce, Big Data Management and Application, Business Administration, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Accounting, and Land Resource Management. Among them, Business Administration, Marketing, Information Management and Information System were awarded the national first-class undergraduate professional construction point, and Human Resource Management and E-commerce were awarded the provincial first-class professional construction point. At present, the School has more than 6,300 students, including more than 4,500 undergraduates, more than 1,700 master's students (including master's students with professional degrees), and more than 80 doctoral students. It is the first business school in South China to offer management education.
Highly Qualified Teachers
The School has a strong faculty, with close ties and extensive cooperation with the business community and government departments. The School is also equipped with a team of teachers who are rooted in teaching and research, and have strong practical experience and ability in solving business management problems. At present, the School has 151 highly qualified full-time teachers, including 24 senior titles and 53 vice senior titles. There are 16 doctoral supervisors and 104 master’s supervisors. One of our teachers was selected into the national high-level talent project, and 10 were selected into the provincial and ministerial talent project, including: 1 “Pearl River Scholar” chair professor, 2 “Pearl River Scholars” young scholars, 1 Guangdong provincial “Thousand-Hundred-Ten” talents, and 6 Guangdong Province excellent young teachers. There are 4 specially recruited professors of GDUT’s “Hundred Talents Plan” and 41 teachers of GDUT’s “Youth Hundred Talents Plan”. 6 teachers won the title of “Guangdong Province Famous Teacher, South Guangdong Excellent Teacher”, “South Guangdong Teaching Altar rookie”, “South Guangdong Excellent Educator” and so on.
Outstanding Scientific Research
In the past five years, the scientific research of the school has been significantly enhanced, more than 350 kinds of scientific research projects have been approved, and new breakthroughs have been made in high-level scientific research projects. 55 national projects were approved, including 50 “National Natural Science Foundation of China” projects and 5 “The Social Science Foundation of China” projects; More than 300 provincial and ministerial level and horizontal projects were approved, and the total annual contract expenditure exceeds 20 million yuan. The quality and quantity of high-level papers published by the School continue to make breakthroughs, having published more than 50 high-level papers annually in the international top journals UTD24 and FT50, ABS 3* and above, and important journals recognized by the Management Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In addition, our research achievements are remarkable, having published many monographs and 13 scientific research achievements with provincial and ministerial awards, including: 2 awards of “Ministry of Education Award” (1 second prize, 1 third prize), 9 awards of “Guangdong Province Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award” (including 2 first prize), and 2 awards of “Guangdong Province Science and Technology Progress Award”. A number of decision-making advisory reports were approved by the Standing Committee and members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, as well as provincial and municipal leaders.
High-quality Research Platform
In 2007, the School was approved by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and established the "Industrial Enterprise Management Innovation Research Center", a key research base of humanities and social sciences in Guangdong universities. In 2012, the Experimental Teaching Center of Economic Management was selected as the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center. In 2015, 2017 and 2021, Guangdong Federation of Social Sciences successively approved and established three decision consulting research bases in Guangdong Province: "Big Data Strategy Research Center", "Innovation Theory and Innovation Management Research Center" and "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Brand Strategy Research Center". The Publicity Department of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee approved and established the Guangdong key think tank "Guangdong Manufacturing Big Data Innovation Research Center". In 2019, the State Key Laboratory (Precision Electronic Manufacturing Technology and Equipment) approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the People's Government of Guangdong Province set up the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intelligent Manufacturing Development Strategy Research Center" under the School of Management. 3 important academic legal research institutions ——“Institute of Guangdong Technical Economy and Modernization of Management” (1986), “System Engineering Society of Guangdong Province” (1988), “Guangdong Entrepreneur Leadership Science Society (2018) affiliated to our institute.
Well-equipped Hardware & Software Facilities
The School has leading educational conditions and teaching facilities, which provide a guarantee for the teaching and research activities of teachers and students. The School also provides individual teaching and research offices for each teacher, independent work cards for full-time master's and doctoral students, and wireless network coverage is fully realized. In addition, the School has long purchased a rich full-text database of academic journals and commercial resources for teachers and students.
Extensive International Cooperation and Exchanges
The School attaches great importance to international exchanges and internationalization construction, actively carries out contacts and cooperation with world-renowned universities, educational institutions and scholars, and builds a platform for international exchanges and cooperation. In recent years, we have established various forms of scientific research and talent training cooperation with University of California, Riverside (UCR), The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), Cleveland State University (CSU), Missouri State University (MSU), Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), as well as many well-known universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It has greatly enhanced the international reputation and influence of the School. The School is actively participating in two major international Business school accreditation programs and was awarded the BGA (Business Graduates Association) International Gold Accreditation in January 2023. Since November 2020, School of Management is a member of AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).
